Just a thought to help start your week.
Here in the deep south, temperatures are beginning to drop below 80 degrees, and that’s always awesome! The leaves are beginning to change colors. And for many of us, we begin the season of watching the sides of the road for deer about to jump out in front of us! I was pulling out of my driveway one day a week or so ago when I glanced in my rear view mirror only to see a deer casually walking across right behind me. At least she had waited for me to cross first!
These two deer were enjoying the acorns in the back yard while occasionally glancing up to see if I was still watching and snapping pictures. They were content in their activity but still very alert to their surroundings.
I wonder how much time is wasted each week because we are so focused on what we find ourselves busy doing that we forget to glance up every once in a while and see the world around us! God’s creation is too beautiful to be missed. And God’s creation includes not only the birds, trees, and deer, but also the other lonely hearts and busy individuals who are walking and working among us every day.
Do yourself a favor this week. Look up from all the nuts and see the people around you. They may just need another living soul to help them appreciate the beauty of the moment. The Psalmist said it best when he said (paraphrasing) that he longed for the love of God as much as the deer longed for the cool water of the stream. Don’t miss the goodness of God all around you. Look up!
Just a thought.
