Just a thought to help start your week.

While in Alaska, we saw many beautiful sights.  In the waters, especially as we navigated the passages near glaciers and around Juneau, we could see those very large chunks of ice.  Now, to a good old Mississippi-raised and Alabama-settled boy like myself, even those large chunks of ice looked like giant icebergs to me.  The blue colors in the ice make them look beautiful, distracting you somewhat from their very real danger.

Ice bergs, after all, are the very reason the remains of the great Titanic now sit at the bottom of the ocean.  What is especially intriguing about an iceberg is that at least three quarters of it are hiding below the surface of the water.  The tip of the iceberg may look pretty, but the dangers lie below the surface.

Sin seems to hit us the same way.  We see those things and are often tempted by those things that look good, seem amazing, and are possibly very different from anything we have experienced before, and the curiosity draws us in.  But we only see the “tip of the iceberg,” if you will.  There is so much more danger hiding below the surface, waiting to strike and do its best to sink us.

We must beware the icebergs in life.  As little children, we are tempted to touch each and every thing we come past.  Then our parents tell us to look but don’t touch.  In reference to the icebergs, we may look as our great ship of life passes by, but getting close enough to touch could be dangerous, detrimental, and even deadly.  

The captain of our ship knew how to safely navigate those Alaskan waters to keep us safe from the hidden dangers of the icebergs.  Trust the Great Captain of your ship to guide you safely through as well.
