As another election season comes to a close, some of us feel encouraged, while others feel concerned about the direction of our nation. Some elected leaders hold beliefs that conflict with our Christian faith. Yet these challenges are not new, and our calling remains the same: to love others, serve faithfully, and keep our eyes on Jesus.
Regardless of political affiliation, position, or personal beliefs, we are all fallen people in desperate need of Jesus Christ as our Savior. Remembering our own need for grace should bring humility to our conversations and compassion to our prayers. Every person we supported and every person we opposed is someone God loves.
Scripture calls us to pray for those in authority. We should pray for their peace and safety, for wisdom in their decisions, and for God’s guidance as they lead. Above all, we should pray that they receive salvation through the saving blood of Jesus Christ and place Him at the center of their lives.
This week, let us turn our concerns into prayer and our convictions into acts of love. Our responsibility to reflect Christ continues long after the votes are counted. May our words, actions, and prayers point others toward the hope we have in Him.
“I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people – for kings and all those in authority.” 1 Timothy 2:1-2
